New logo and website for Bespoke Establishments

   August 22, 2012
  Graphic Design, Typography

We’ve just launched the new identity and website for Bespoke Establishments, a lifestyle and property management company based in London. The monogram takes inspiration from the types of shapes found in iron gates to help convey the care they take of your home while you’re away. As this is a premium brand, we chose a rich and luxurious colour palette.

The website gave us a good opportunity to try creating a responsive site and we’re really pleased with how it adapts for the iPad and iPhone. We used the 1140 Grid as a starting point.

Just waiting for the business cards to arrive now…

Finally the long-awaited (for me anyway!) day has Finally the long-awaited (for me anyway!) day has arrived! On my son's 12th birthday, I am excited to announce the launch of my book '12 Twelves - A Visual Expedition into Geometric Pattern', which is also the inaugural transmission on Radian Imprint, a new print and publishing imprint established by Daud Sutton and myself to bring printed works of geometric beauty into the world.

From the back cover:

Geometry, the study of number in space, has inspired pattern designers for millenia.

This book is a visual journey through a sequence of Islamic geometric patterns. Informative diagrams demonstrate how the patterns can be constructed with the simple tools of compass and ruler. Stars and rosettes with twelve points or petals lie at the focal points of the patterns. They interact with their neighbours in versatile ways revealing a wide range of pattern possibilities.

Drawing the designs in this book encourages contemplation of the visual qualities of number and provides an insight into how the patterns may have been originally discovered by the masters of the art.

It was the age of the machine, atoms rent asunder, phantasmal worlds. The heirs to the great patrons of old grew forgetful of their duty to living tradition. Mistaking the grandiose for grandeur, confounding grandeur with the celestial, they saw neither merit nor advantage in the true geometric weavings of the Sons of Hermes.

Blinded by the convenience of concrete and steel, rivals in the pursuit of ever loftier towers, they presumed to claim as their own these subtle currents of beauty, torturing them into little more than stamps of their own national fetishes, each claiming preeminence.

But the souls of this world did not cease their need for this talismanic balm.

Some among the servants of this art sought an example to guide them. They found it in the music of ancestors which tried through new struggles was forged, tempered and sharpened anew. Seeing this music recorded to be sent into the world they understood that they too could send works of geometric beauty imprinted into the lives and homes of those who yet longed for them.
