Upcoming Workshops & Courses

I teach courses and give lectures in geometric design (with a focus on Islamic geometric pattern) throughout the year at various locations in the UK and abroad with the aim of inspiring students to discover the traditional skills of geometric construction as fundamental tools for design in the modern world.

The practical courses I deliver involve drawing patterns with the ancient tools of ruler and compass. I demonstrate the stages of construction and help students to draw the designs themselves, but most importantly I try to impart an analytical understanding of the structure so that the core principles are understood with a view to enabling the student to explore the infinite possiblities of this rich artform.

Upcoming workshops and courses are listed below.

Courses in 2020

The Silver Ratio Grid System

Online course

I will be sharing new research into the Silver Ratio and it’s application in Islamic Geometric Pattern on this online course.

Participants will learn to construct a master grid which provides the underlying structure for a wide range of patterns based on four-fold symmetry. We will draw around 15 familiar patterns from various parts of the world, but this system also provides the key to many more related designs. Click the image for full details and sign up.
