One of this week's epic constructions (I've been i One of this week's epic constructions (I've been in the throes of a hyper focus dive into 16-12 and 18-12 patterns of late). This combination of 18 and 12 pointed rosettes with 7pt stars and regular pentagons has been extrapolated from similar patterns found at the Al Ghuri mosque in Cairo. This one only exists in very recent history (@rajen.astho feed!) as far as I know. Managed to revive my Rotring technical pens with some dark green ink to plot this onto Kraft paper. #drawing #geometric #pattern #islamicgeometry #plotter #penplotter #symmetry
My rendition of this wonderful pattern from Sultan My rendition of this wonderful pattern from Sultan Al Ghuri mosque in Cairo., which I was fortunate enough to visit and lay my hands on earlier this year. Hard to tell where the necessary adjustments were made in the historical example so this is what I settled on. Check out recent posts by @aslam.geometricpatterns for his excellent take on this gem. I used four different pens for the plotter drawing which involved some careful padding out of the pens with masking tape to make sure they aligned on the page. Patience required but worth it for the result. I've also included an image of a sketchy first attempt at a ruler and compass construction. #drawing #geometric #pattern #islamicgeometry #plotter #penplotter
