The configuration @kamikyodai and @rajen.astho posted recently is a slightly different construction as the octagons and pentagrams are compromised while the petals are all the same. In order to stitch with other patterns to generate these (and many more) the compromise must be shifted to the diagonal petals (green in slide 2). Both very interesting ways to resolve a pattern that seems very simple but requires a subtle compromise somewhere. The first slide shows designs which would make fantastic doors and the last slide shows a possible border design. These patterns have been analysed by others and these have also informed my understanding, thanks to @islamsfarid @aslam.geometricpatterns @kamikyodai @rajen.astho @ashrafsalloum for the ever fruitful dialogue. As @rajen.astho mentioned, there seem to be two historical examples Sultan Hassan Mosque, Cairo and Suleymaniye Mosque, Istanbul - both seem to compromise the octagon rather than the petals. #pattern #drawing #design #islamicgeometry #geometric
